“Opioids are becoming a big problem for our families in Hawaii.  Like many other states, Hawaii is seeing deaths due to overdose surpassing traffic fatalities.  In Hawaii, between 2012 and 2016, an average of 150 people per year died from a drug overdose compared to 113 deaths from motor vehicle crashes. Many of these deaths were related to prescription medication.

The good news is that, compared to other states, Hawaii ranks relatively low in opioid related deaths and rates of heroin use. Working together, we have the opportunity to protect our loved ones and prevent opioid misuse epidemic on our beautiful island homes.”
